Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day!

February 2nd; a day where those who suffer from RA work to spread knowledge and awareness about our illness.

Before I was diagnosed with RA, I knew very little about the disorder and the people who suffer from it. Now, I am a part of a vast community of people who work to build each other up and encourage each other as we fight this battle together.

Why Awareness?

Many people are unaware of what all goes on in the body of a person who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis.

Having a national day that recognizes this disorder and draws attention to everything we go through helps educate others who were like me before I was diagnosed: oblivious and undereducated.

The Kicker

February 2nd is NOT yet officially National Rheumatoid Awareness Day. Because rheumatoid arthritis is not as public as other diseases, disorders and illnesses, rheumatology lacks proper "disability accommodations, clinical care, healthcare reimbursement and research funding" (Rheumatoid Patient Foundation).

How to Help

Sign the petition. Really. That's it.

With enough signatures, we can draw the attention of President Trump and he can proclaim February 2nd as National Rheumatoid Awareness Day. Due to the lack of knowledge and publicity, RA can be very isolating. We have to explain what we're going through to people who have never heard of or really dug deep into rheumatoid arthritis. It's also a confusing disease. With this petition, knowledge of RA will become more commonplace.

The Link

Please consider signing this petition as it only takes 30 seconds and could benefit the lives of millions of people, including yours truly. Rheumatoid Awareness Day becoming a nationally recognized day would change so much for us in terms of treatment and care, research and hopefully a cure at some point, and basic human understanding.
